My Friend Deb's Wedding
- Before & After the Wedding -
Saturday morning, before the wedding, and Sunday, the day after the wedding, Cheryl and I took in some of the fun things to do in Park City. There wasn't time for us to go hiking, but we did do the "Zip" line ride, Alpine sled, and general sightseeing.

This is the living room of the condo we stayed in at "Park Station" in Park City.
We took the "town" lift (from main street) up to to look around. This is a view back down. We could have hiked, or rented bikes and biked down, but we didn't really have time to do it before the wedding, so we just rode up & down.
An old building at the top. I presume it's something left from when there was mining done there.
One of the ski slopes (a road in the summer, I guess) looking from the top down.
A view of Park City at the bottom of this lift (taken on the way back down).
A bunch of the ski slopes carved out of the trees. Wow, how different it looks in comparison to what it looks like in the winter!
Again, from the lift, the condos (reddish brick - biggest thing in picture) are where we were staying.
"Downtown" Park City, originally a silver mining town in the 1800s, taken from the lift
A couple shots of main street (at street level, of course). Definitely a tourist town...and it's a lot busier in the winter.
Part of the 2002 Winter Olympic games were held in Park City, and this (left) is a sculpture of the olympic flame....but I have no idea what the meaning is behind this moose (elk?) with horns and other instruments sticking out of it!
The
Park City
Mountain Resort has created a couple of cool summer-time things to
do...and on the lift on the way up the mountain a camera snaps your
picture (which they, of course will sell you, and which I obviously
bought).
More about the cool things below... |
||
One
of the cool things is the "Zip Rider". You get strapped
into a tiny little harness/seat thing that has a pulley at the top, and
you shoot down the mountain with the pulley zipping along nothing but a
wire. You get up to about 50 MPH, and it lasts just under a
minute. It was really cool.
This is a view down from the top (and you can only see a small part of the zip line) |
||
After we got to the bottom, we rode back up to do the Alpine Slide. Unfortunately, I didn't think to snap pictures (or a video!) of people coming screaming past us on their way down the Zip Rider. Duh! Oh well. Go to the Park City Mountain Resort web site for info about it and the Alpine Slide.
A view down one of the ski runs as we walked over to the Alpine Slide
"Alpine
Slide?" you ask...Well, to start off, you get one of these
sleds. It's got rollers & nylon skis on the bottom, and a
break lever you use to control your speed. You can go really slow
(and stop if you want), or if you let it build up enough speed, I
guarantee you can go so fast you'll fly off of the track in the turns.
This is Cheryl with her sled. |
||
"What track?" you ask...Well, it's sort of like a luge run, but in the summer, there's obviously no ice. The track is made of some sort of plastic or fiberglass. It twists its way down the mountain.
Cheryl in her sled, about to start on her 1-minute twisting slide down the mountain.
Ending
the trip was a brief stop at the Mormon's "Temple Square" in
Salt Lake City. It was just a 15 minute stop on the way back to
the airport to kill some extra time we had.
This is a conference center (outside the gate)... |
||
...and this is the temple. |
