Lido Island

Our hotel was on Lido Island, not in Venice.  (We couldn't find any vacancies in Venice.)  In a way it was nice because it was away from the crowds, making it more quite and romantic, plus we had a nice beach.  On the other hand it was a little inconvenient to have to take a shuttle boat back and forth in the morning and evenings.  The hotel itself was very nice, although we really weren't there very much.

Lido Island is very narrow (a block or two), one side facing Venice, the other the Adriatic Sea.  It is comparatively long though -- probably about two miles.  The one day we stayed on the island, Sunday (since many places would be closed anyway), it was cooler and rained some, so we never really used the beach -- just walked along it.

This is us the night we arrived, in the water taxi, on the way to the hotel.

A little courtyard in our hotel.  Our room was above it.

This is the dock area and the canal leading up to the hotel.

The beach emptied as a storm approached.

Me on the main street of Lido.  Yes, unlike Venice, there are cars on the tiny island of Lido.

That is our hotel on the left, and a bar on the right.

Us on one of the sidewalks of Lido.

This is in the lobby of our hotel.  The first several times I was in the lobby I didn't even notice it!  Duh!  How can you miss a fountain that big?!?

Us on the taxi as we're leaving for home.

The trip was way too short.

This is the back of the hotel.  The main entrance used was the entrance on the non-street-side because everyone arrived and left by boat.

Me and Kathy on the beach one afternoon -- one of my favorite pictures.  You can tell a storm is approaching, which made for an interesting background.
